About Aloomba
Aloomba is a small rural town and locality in the Cairns Region of Queensland, located 6.7 kilometres east-southeast of Gordonvale and approximately 30 kilometres south of the Cairns CBD. Nestled between the Great Barrier Reef and the World Heritage–listed Wet Tropics rainforest, Aloomba sits amid a landscape of sugarcane farms, tropical vegetation, and the Mulgrave River floodplain. The 2021 census recorded a population of 576 people across the locality's 111 km².
Aloomba offers a relaxed tropical lifestyle on the fringe of the Cairns region, with residents enjoying proximity to both Gordonvale's local shops and schools and the full amenities of Cairns city. The surrounding area is rich in natural attractions, including access to Wooroonooran National Park, the Russell River, and the iconic Behana Gorge. The community has strong agricultural roots in the local sugarcane industry, and the Mulgrave Central Mill nearby is one of the largest sugar mills in Australia.
