About Archerfield
Archerfield is a southern Brisbane suburb located approximately 12 kilometres from the CBD, best known for Archerfield Airport — one of Queensland's oldest and most historically significant aerodromes. The suburb covers around 4.5 square kilometres and has a relatively small resident population of about 533 people, with the majority of its land devoted to industrial and aviation uses. Archerfield Airport played a pivotal role in World War II as a major RAAF base and later served as Brisbane's main civil airport before Eagle Farm took over in 1948. Today the airport operates as a busy general aviation hub hosting private aircraft, helicopter operators, and flying training schools.
Archerfield is primarily an industrial and commercial suburb, with residential pockets clustered in the north and east. The suburb's proximity to major freight routes and Brisbane's southern industrial corridor makes it a preferred location for logistics, manufacturing, and trade businesses. Despite its industrial character, residents benefit from easy access to neighbouring Moorooka and Salisbury, which offer supermarkets, dining, and community services. The suburb is well connected by bus to Brisbane CBD and the broader south-side rail network, and the Centenary Highway provides convenient links to Ipswich and the Lockyer Valley.
Archerfield falls under postcode 4108 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Toohey electorate.
