About Barney View
Barney View is a sparsely populated rural locality in Queensland's Scenic Rim Region, situated approximately 114 kilometres south-southwest of Brisbane CBD. With only 38 residents recorded at the 2021 Census, it is one of the most remote and thinly settled communities in Southeast Queensland, occupying rugged terrain near the McPherson Range. The locality takes its name from the imposing Mount Barney, a prominent peak in the Scenic Rim that attracts bushwalkers and climbers from across the region.
Barney View is a destination for outdoor enthusiasts, with access to Lamington National Park and the Mount Barney National Park offering challenging hiking trails through subtropical rainforest and rocky granite ridges. The tiny community retains a historic character, with the Barney View Community Church (formerly Methodist) standing as a heritage landmark. Residents live a self-sufficient rural lifestyle, with the nearest towns of Rathdowney and Boonah providing essential services.
