About Baromi
Baromi is a tiny rural locality in South Gippsland, Victoria, situated within the South Gippsland Shire Council area and directly adjacent to the township of Mirboo North. With a population of 149 at the 2021 Census and a land area of less than one square kilometre, Baromi is effectively a close extension of the Mirboo North community. Historically, Baromi predates Mirboo North itself — the settlement at Baromi was the original foothold before the completion of the railway line to a terminus one kilometre away in 1885, prompting the new town of Mirboo North to grow around that station.
Residents of Baromi enjoy immediate access to Mirboo North's village amenities, including a pub, café, bakery, supermarket, primary school, and medical centre. The surrounding South Gippsland landscape is renowned for its lush rolling dairy country and access to the Grand Ridge Road scenic tourist route. Wilsons Promontory National Park is approximately 80 kilometres to the south-east, and the regional city of Traralgon is about 40 kilometres to the north-east via the South Gippsland Highway. Baromi suits those wanting a tight-knit rural community lifestyle in one of Victoria's most scenic farming regions.
Baromi falls under postcode 3871 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Narracan (Eastern Victoria) electorate.
