About Bilbul

Bilbul is a small village in the Riverina region of New South Wales, located approximately 6 kilometres north-east of Griffith within the City of Griffith local government area. With a population of 586 people recorded in the 2021 Census, the village sits in the fertile irrigated agricultural lands that made this part of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area famous. Bilbul is home to the head office of De Bortoli Wines, one of Australia's most celebrated family wine producers, and also hosts the William Bull Brewery, named after the early landowner after whom the village itself is named. The village was gazetted and a post office established in 1922.

The lifestyle in Bilbul is anchored by viticulture, horticulture, and the wine industry, with the surrounding Griffith wine region producing world-class varieties including the iconic Noble One botrytis semillon. The area around Bilbul and Griffith is known for its strong multicultural character, particularly its Italian community which settled the region during the irrigation era and built its food and wine culture. Residents enjoy the rural village atmosphere while being just minutes from Griffith's full range of shops, schools, and healthcare. The Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area landscape — flat plains, vineyards, citrus orchards, and wetlands — provides a distinctive character unique to inland NSW.
