About Blackbutt
Blackbutt is a small rural township in South East Queensland, located in the Somerset Region about 90 km north-west of Brisbane. Situated in the D'Aguilar Range foothills at around 390 metres elevation, the town serves as a service centre for surrounding farming and forestry communities. Blackbutt covers 7.9 km² and had a population of approximately 799 at the 2021 Census. The township is named after the blackbutt eucalyptus trees that dominate the surrounding bushland.
Blackbutt offers a quiet country lifestyle attracting residents who value space, clean air, and proximity to the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. The town has a small shopping strip, primary school, hotel, and community services catering to locals and passing travellers on the D'Aguilar Highway. The surrounding area is popular for bushwalking, mountain biking, and camping. Nanango, the nearest major centre, is about 30 km north, while Brisbane is accessible in under two hours by road.
