About Boat Harbour Beach
Boat Harbour Beach is a small coastal locality on Tasmania's north-west coast, situated approximately 12 kilometres north-west of Wynyard and 30 kilometres west of Burnie, within the Waratah–Wynyard Council area. With a 2021 Census population of 89 residents spread across just 0.33 square kilometres, it is one of the most intimate beachside communities in the state. The locality sits below a green farming hillside escarpment, with a close-knit mix of permanent residents and holiday home owners who are drawn by its sheltered position between rocky headlands.
Boat Harbour Beach is renowned for its pristine white sand beach with crystal-clear turquoise water, and forms part of the Rocky Cape National Park precinct, offering coastal walks that lead to sea caves and secluded beaches with sweeping views of Bass Strait. The beach is popular for swimming, snorkelling, and diving, and a Holiday Park provides accommodation for visitors. Everyday services are accessed in nearby Wynyard, which has supermarkets, schools, and a hospital. The area's appeal lies in its unspoiled natural beauty and relaxed seaside lifestyle, making it a popular escape for Tasmanians seeking a coastal retreat.
Boat Harbour Beach falls under postcode 7321 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (Montgomery) electorate.
