The locality was historically known as Mitchells Creek and later Daviesville, reflecting its early European settlement history tied to gold and copper mining. Today the village is largely inactive, described as a near ghost town, though the surrounding farmland remains productive.
The area's heritage is tied to 19th century gold and copper mining activity that briefly brought prosperity before the decline of mineral deposits. Agriculture, particularly sheep and cattle grazing, now dominates the local economy across the Lincoln and Bligh county region.
