About Bolivia
Bolivia is a sparsely populated rural locality on the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales, situated approximately 25 kilometres south of Tenterfield near the Queensland border. Covering around 290 square kilometres of undulating granite country, Bolivia had a population of 74 at the 2021 Census. The landscape features rolling pastures, granite outcrops and patches of dry sclerophyll forest typical of the New England Tablelands at elevations approaching 1,000 metres.
The locality is primarily agricultural, with beef cattle and wool grazing on large rural properties across its expansive land area. Residents depend on nearby Tenterfield for schooling, medical services and day-to-day needs, with access via the New England Highway. The cool climate, open countryside and dramatic granite boulder landscapes of the region attract those seeking a quiet rural lifestyle, and the broader Tenterfield area is celebrated for its connection to Peter Allen and its historic town centre.
Bolivia falls under postcode 2372 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lismore electorate.
