About Bombo
Bombo is a small coastal locality in the Kiama district of New South Wales, situated approximately 90 kilometres south of Sydney's CBD. Nestled between the Illawarra escarpment and the Tasman Sea, it covers just 1.8 square kilometres and had a population of around 175 at the 2021 census. The suburb borders Kiama to the south and Kiama Downs to the north, placing residents within easy reach of one of the Illawarra's most popular seaside communities.
Bombo is best known for its striking basalt headland quarry — now a protected geological site and popular photography spot — as well as Bombo Beach, a scenic surf break accessible directly from the train station. The area attracts nature lovers, surfers, and day-trippers, with a relaxed coastal character complemented by proximity to Kiama's cafés, restaurants, and farmers' markets. Its own railway station on the NSW TrainLink South Coast line makes it surprisingly accessible for such a quiet locality.
Bombo falls under postcode 2533 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Kiama electorate.
