About Boomer Bay
Boomer Bay is a small coastal locality in the Sorell Council area of south-east Tasmania, situated approximately 27 kilometres east of the town of Sorell on the shores of Blackman Bay. Covering about 5 square kilometres, the locality has an eastern boundary that follows the Blackman Bay shoreline and contains Boomer Island, a small feature within the bay. With a 2021 Census population of approximately 117 residents, Boomer Bay is one of Tasmania's quieter coastal settlements in the South-East LGA region. The Arthur Highway (Route A9) provides the main road connection through the area toward the Tasman Peninsula.
Boomer Bay offers a tranquil coastal lifestyle with direct access to the scenic waterways of Blackman Bay and its surrounds. The Arthur Highway connects residents to Dunalley to the north-west and the Tasman Peninsula attractions to the south, including Port Arthur Historic Site. Sorell, about 27 kilometres to the west, is the nearest town for everyday shopping, schools, and services, and Hobart is approximately one hour's drive. There is no public transport serving the locality, and a private vehicle is essential. The area suits those who value coastal seclusion, water access, and proximity to Tasmania's spectacular south-east landscapes.
