About Boompa
Boompa is a remote rural locality in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, situated approximately 66 kilometres west of Maryborough and 19 kilometres south-east of Biggenden. Covering around 312 square kilometres of predominantly agricultural land, the locality falls within the Fraser Coast Regional Council area. With a 2021 Census population of 89 people, Boompa is a lightly settled pastoral district where beef cattle grazing dominates the working landscape.
European settlement in the Boompa district began in the 1870s, initially driven by timber logging in the hoop pine forests before transitioning to extensive pastoral grazing on the area's fertile basalt-derived soils. Today the locality is characterised by large cattle properties and quiet country roads, with the Maryborough-Biggenden Road providing the main access route. Residents travel to Biggenden or Maryborough for services, schools, and shopping. The broader Fraser Coast Region, with its proximity to the Mary River and scenic hinterland, provides a peaceful backdrop for those connected to the land.
