About Boonooroo Plains
Boonooroo Plains is a small rural locality in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, situated approximately 12 kilometres south-east of Maryborough and 43 kilometres south of Hervey Bay. The locality covers an area of nearly 75 square kilometres and recorded no permanent residents at the 2021 Census, consistent with its character as undeveloped rural land. It lies near the Mary River estuary and the coastal hinterland of the Fraser Coast.
Boonooroo Plains is surrounded by the natural landscapes of the Fraser Coast, with nearby access to the Great Sandy Strait, the World Heritage-listed Fraser Island (K'gari), and the waterways of the Mary River delta. The Fraser Coast region is popular for fishing, boating, and ecotourism, and residents in surrounding localities enjoy these recreational pursuits. The nearby town of Maryborough — Queensland's Heritage City — provides services, history, and commerce for the broader region. The coastal communities of Boonooroo and Tuan are neighbours.
Boonooroo Plains falls under postcode 4650 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Maryborough electorate.
