About Borallon
Borallon is a small rural locality in the Somerset Region of South East Queensland, situated approximately 32 kilometres west of Brisbane and around 20 kilometres north-west of Ipswich. Covering nearly 14 square kilometres, the locality is notably bounded on multiple sides by the Brisbane River, which meanders around and through the area, giving it a distinctive river-framed character. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 90 residents in approximately 30 dwellings, reflecting its quiet, semi-rural nature.
The locality takes its name from a former railway station, which was itself named after Borallon in Cornwall, England, by Queensland Railway Commissioner Francis Curnow. The Brisbane River catchment setting means the land is closely managed for water quality and agricultural purposes, with farming the principal economic activity. Residents are a short drive from the services of Ipswich and have reasonable access to Brisbane via the Warrego Highway corridor, making Borallon a secluded rural address within the orbit of South East Queensland's major urban centres.
Borallon falls under postcode 4306 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Scenic Rim electorate.
