About Boro
Boro is a small rural locality in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Region of New South Wales, situated near the village of Tarago approximately 50 kilometres south of Goulburn and around 80 kilometres north of Canberra. At the 2021 census it had a population of just 97 people, making it one of the more sparsely settled localities in the Southern Tablelands. The name Boro is derived from an Aboriginal bora ring, and Boro Creek — a tributary of the Shoalhaven River — flows through the area.
The locality is centred on grazing and rural lifestyle properties set among the open tablelands landscape, with the historic village of Tarago providing a small community hub. Residents seeking services travel to Goulburn or, given the proximity to the ACT border, to Queanbeyan or Canberra for shopping, healthcare, and employment. Boro suits those drawn to a very quiet rural life with scenic creek country and wide pastoral views.
Boro falls under postcode 2622 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the South Coast electorate.
