About Bribbaree
Bribbaree is a small village in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales, located approximately 408 kilometres west-south-west of Sydney and 38 kilometres north-west of Young. The village straddles the boundary of Weddin Shire and Hilltops Council, and had a population of 144 at the 2021 Census. Bribbaree grew around the railway following the opening of Bribbaree railway station in 1916 on the Stockinbingal–Parkes line, and it retains a quiet, heritage character typical of small agricultural villages in the central west.
The village is surrounded by productive farming land supporting wool, sheep, and grain production. Community life centres on the local pub — the well-known Rusty Horse Hotel — and the small network of residents who call this corner of the Riverina their home. Nearby Young offers access to schools, medical services, shops, and the famous cherry orchards of the Hilltops region. Bribbaree suits those seeking affordable rural living in an authentic country setting.
Bribbaree falls under postcode 2594 and is governed by Hilltops Council / Weddin Shire Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Cootamundra electorate.
