About Bribie Island North
Bribie Island North is the northernmost locality on Bribie Island, located within the Sunshine Coast Region of Queensland, approximately 96 kilometres north-north-east of Brisbane. The locality is entirely undeveloped — a narrow sandspit of coastal land separating the Pumicestone Passage to the west from the Pacific Ocean to the east. It is notable as the only part of Bribie Island that falls within the Sunshine Coast Region, with the rest of the island belonging to the City of Moreton Bay. The 2021 Census recorded no permanent residents.
Bribie Island North is a pristine natural environment prized for its untouched beaches, birdlife, and marine ecosystem. The locality is popular with outdoor enthusiasts, particularly four-wheel-drive adventurers, anglers, and campers who access it via beach drives from the Bongaree township to the south. The Pumicestone Passage provides sheltered waterways for kayaking, fishing, and wildlife watching, including dugongs and dolphins. With no permanent population or infrastructure, Bribie Island North is preserved as a largely natural coastal corridor and forms part of the broader ecological landscape connecting Moreton Bay with the Sunshine Coast.
Bribie Island North falls under postcode 4507 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Pumicestone electorate.
