About Bulman Weemol
Bulman Weemol is a remote Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory, located approximately 312 kilometres north-east of Katherine along the Central Arnhem Road. The combined communities of Bulman and Weemol — situated around 5 kilometres apart — had a recorded population of 263 at the 2021 Census and represent one of the few significant settlements along this remote highway corridor between Katherine and Arnhem Land. The area sits on the traditional lands of the Rembarrnga and Ngalakan peoples, with deep cultural connections to the surrounding savanna and river country.
Bulman Weemol is a closed community, meaning visitors require a permit from the Northern Land Council to enter. Services in the community include a health clinic and basic community infrastructure, with residents reliant on Katherine for major medical, educational, and retail needs. The surrounding landscape — vast floodplains, rocky escarpments, and tropical savanna — is rich in cultural significance and biodiversity, offering a way of life closely connected to country. Road access can be affected by seasonal flooding during the wet season, making the community even more isolated from May through to December.
Bulman Weemol falls under postcode 852 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Katherine electorate.
