About Burrinjuck

Burrinjuck is a small rural locality in the Yass Valley region of New South Wales, situated on the headwaters of the Murrumbidgee River approximately 60 km south-west of the Yass township and 80 km north-west of Canberra. The area is dominated by the Burrinjuck Dam and Reservoir — a major water storage facility — surrounded by hilly grazing country and national park. With a population of around 40 residents, it is a quiet and remote community known primarily for recreational water activities.

Burrinjuck Dam is a significant regional drawcard, attracting visitors for boating, water-skiing, fishing and camping. The Burrinjuck Waters State Park borders the reservoir, offering scenic bush camping and wildlife encounters. Permanent residents are largely involved in farming or service roles related to the dam and surrounding state park, while holidaymakers account for much of the seasonal activity in the area.

Burrinjuck falls under postcode 2582 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Goulburn electorate.
