About Caveside
Caveside is a small rural locality in the Meander Valley Council area in Tasmania's Launceston region, situated approximately 77 kilometres west of Launceston and 26 kilometres west of the nearby town of Deloraine. The locality lies in the shadow of the Great Western Tiers and sits just 8 kilometres south of Mole Creek, in a picturesque valley of farmland and bushland. With a population of around 133 residents recorded at the 2016 Census, Caveside is a quiet and tightly-knit rural community characterised by pastoral properties and wide open landscapes.
The area takes its name from the remarkable cave systems of the nearby Mole Creek Karst National Park, which draws visitors from across Australia for guided tours of the spectacular Marakoopa and King Solomons caves. The surrounding district is known for its honey production, small farms, and bushwalking opportunities along the Great Western Tiers escarpment. With no train service and limited bus connections, residents rely on private vehicles for everyday needs, with Deloraine offering the closest supermarkets, schools, and medical facilities.
Caveside falls under postcode 7304 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (Montgomery) electorate.
