About Cleland
Cleland is a small locality in the Adelaide Hills, situated approximately 10 kilometres south-east of Adelaide's city centre at an elevation on the Mount Lofty Ranges escarpment. The locality was gazetted in October 2001 and expanded in 2010 to include land from the adjoining suburb of Crafers. With a negligible permanent residential population, Cleland's land area is dominated by the Cleland Conservation Park, which encompasses the famous summit of Mount Lofty — the highest point overlooking Adelaide.
Cleland is visited by thousands of Adelaideans and tourists each year who come to walk the trails of Cleland National Park, enjoy panoramic views of Adelaide from Mount Lofty Summit, and experience native wildlife at Cleland Wildlife Park. The nearby Mount Lofty Botanic Garden and a range of bushwalking tracks make the area a beloved natural escape from the city. Residents of neighbouring suburbs such as Crafers and Stirling benefit from proximity to these outstanding natural amenities while still enjoying easy access to Adelaide.
Cleland falls under postcode 5152 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Heysen electorate.
