About Condamine Plains
Condamine Plains is a rural locality on Queensland's Darling Downs, situated approximately 60 kilometres south-west of Toowoomba within the Toowoomba Region. With a population of just 101 residents spread across 178 square kilometres, it is one of the more sparsely settled areas on the fertile black soil plains. The locality sits along the Condamine River, which forms its western boundary, and the rich vertosol soils support extensive broadacre cropping and cattle grazing.
Agriculture is the defining way of life in Condamine Plains, with wheat, sorghum, barley, and cotton among the major crops grown across the area's large farming properties. The nearby town of Cecil Plains serves as the closest service centre, home to one of the largest cotton gins in the Southern Hemisphere. Residents rely on private vehicles for travel, with the Toowoomba–Cecil Plains Road providing the main connection to Toowoomba and broader services. A provisional school operated here between 1947 and 1961, but the locality has no shops, schools, or services of its own today.
Condamine Plains falls under postcode 4352 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Toowoomba North electorate.
