About Coochin Creek
Coochin Creek is a small coastal locality at the southern end of the Sunshine Coast Region in south-east Queensland, bordered to the east by the Pumicestone Passage and Moreton Bay Marine Park. The locality covers approximately 74.5 square kilometres, much of which is protected as Beerburrum State Forest, Beerburrum East State Forest, and sections of Pumicestone National Park. With a population of just 76 residents recorded in the 2021 Census, Coochin Creek is a quiet and largely natural locality where conservation land far outweighs residential development.
The Coochin Creek camping area, set on the banks of the creek amid open forest and woodland within Beerwah State Forest, is a popular destination for nature-lovers and campers from across the Sunshine Coast and greater Brisbane region. The locality faces the sheltered waters of Pumicestone Passage rather than the open ocean, and the waterway is prized for boating, fishing, and birdwatching as part of the Moreton Bay Marine Park. Nearby Beerwah and Landsborough provide the closest access to shops, schools, and services, while the Glass House Mountains are visible from much of the surrounding area.
Coochin Creek falls under postcode 4519 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Glass House electorate.
