About Coochin
Coochin is a small rural locality in the Scenic Rim Region of South East Queensland, situated approximately 100 kilometres south-south-west of Brisbane and around 13 kilometres south-south-west of the township of Boonah. Covering some 44.6 square kilometres, the locality had a population of 115 residents at the 2021 Census, spread across 48 dwellings at a very low density. The area is characterised by open agricultural land and rolling hills at the foothills of the Main Range, giving it a quiet and distinctly pastoral character.
The locality is perhaps best known for the historic Coochin Coochin pastoral property, one of Queensland's most storied heritage stations, which has operated in the area since the mid-nineteenth century. The surrounding landscape offers stunning views of the Scenic Rim ranges and is popular with those seeking a lifestyle away from urban pressures. Day-to-day services are accessed via Boonah, with the wider Scenic Rim region offering access to national parks, farm stays, and regional markets for those who call this quiet corner of Queensland home.
Coochin falls under postcode 4310 and is governed by Scenic Rim Region Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Scenic Rim electorate.
