About Coolabunia
Coolabunia is a rural locality in the South Burnett Region of Queensland, situated approximately 10 kilometres south-east of Kingaroy within the South Burnett Regional Council area. Covering around 41 square kilometres, the locality has a small population of about 173 residents spread across open farming land and gentle hill country. The D'Aguilar Highway passes through Coolabunia, connecting it to Kingaroy in the north-west and Caboolture to the south-east.
The locality takes its name from a pastoral run, with many believing the word derives from an Aboriginal expression describing a sleeping koala. Coolabunia is historically notable as the location of Bethany, the farm property of former Queensland Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen, and Coolabunia Hill is visible from Kingaroy's lookout. The surrounding South Burnett region is renowned for peanut farming, wineries, and a relaxed rural lifestyle, with the town of Kingaroy providing all necessary services, shops, and schools for local residents.
Coolabunia falls under postcode 4610 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Nanango electorate.
