Curban is a vast and sparsely populated rural locality in central-western New South Wales, located approximately 35 kilometres north of Gilgandra in the Coonamble Shire. Spanning more than 423 square kilometres, it is one of the larger localities by area in the region, yet has a population of just around 137 residents — a testament to the wide-open, agricultural nature of the land. The terrain is characteristic of the Western Slopes and Plains, with flat to gently undulating land suited to broad-acre cropping and sheep and cattle grazing.

The local economy is driven almost entirely by agriculture, particularly grain farming and livestock grazing, which have shaped the landscape and community for generations. Residents look to Gilgandra for most services, including schools, healthcare, and shopping, while larger needs are met in Dubbo approximately 90 kilometres to the south. Curban offers an exceptionally quiet, self-reliant lifestyle for those drawn to the wide plains and big skies of the New South Wales outback fringe.

Curban falls under postcode 2827 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Barwon electorate.
