Currency Creek is a small historic town in the Alexandrina Council area of South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula, established in 1840 and situated approximately 8 kilometres north of Goolwa and 75 kilometres south of Adelaide. The locality covers 109 square kilometres of predominantly rural land and recorded a population of 443 at the 2021 census, comprising farming families, wine industry workers and lifestyle residents in one of South Australia's most picturesque rural settings. The Currency Creek locality lies within the Currency Creek wine region, one of the Fleurieu Peninsula's recognised wine appellations producing cool-climate Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and other varietals. The town sits close to the southern shore of Lake Alexandrina, the largest freshwater lake in Australia.
Currency Creek offers a relaxed rural lifestyle enriched by the natural beauty of the Fleurieu Peninsula, with Lake Alexandrina's sweeping waterscapes, the nearby Coorong National Park and the historic town of Goolwa providing exceptional outdoor recreation including boating, fishing, birdwatching and cycling. The Currency Creek wine region's cellar doors attract visitors throughout the year, and the charming towns of Goolwa, Middleton and Port Elliot on the Encounter Coast are within 15 kilometres. Victor Harbor, the Fleurieu's largest service town, is approximately 30 kilometres to the west with full shopping, medical and schooling facilities. Adelaide provides the full range of metropolitan services roughly 75 kilometres to the north.
