About Daymar
Daymar is a small rural town and locality in the Goondiwindi Region of south-west Queensland, situated approximately 509 kilometres west-south-west of Brisbane and 159 kilometres west of Goondiwindi. The locality covers around 554 square kilometres of wide open plains on the South Western Highway corridor, and recorded a population of just 41 people in the 2021 census. The area is classic outback Queensland — flat, dry, and devoted almost entirely to broadacre cropping and beef cattle grazing. Daymar sits roughly 16 kilometres east of the small township of Thallon.
Daymar is a farming community where residents live and work across large rural properties producing wheat, sorghum, and cattle. Basic supplies and services are accessed in nearby Thallon or the slightly larger town of St George (93 kilometres to the north). The Goondiwindi Region provides local government services, with Goondiwindi itself (159 km east) being the main regional centre for more significant services, health, and retail. The lifestyle here is defined by wide open spaces, a tight-knit farming community, and the rhythms of outback agriculture.
Daymar falls under postcode 4497 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warrego electorate.
