About Deepwater
Deepwater is a coastal locality in the Gladstone Region of Queensland, situated on the Discovery Coast approximately 130 kilometres north of Bundaberg and around 560 kilometres north of Brisbane. With a 2021 Census population of 287 residents across approximately 202 square kilometres, it is a sparsely populated coastal area characterised by its proximity to Deepwater National Park and the unspoilt shores of the Coral Sea. Broadwater Creek and Blackwater Creek flow through the locality before merging and entering the sea, contributing to the rich coastal ecosystem.
Deepwater is best known as the gateway to Deepwater National Park, a secluded stretch of coastline famous for its loggerhead turtle nesting beaches, making it one of Queensland's most significant sea turtle rookeries. The Broadwater Conservation Park and nearby Agnes Water (approximately 17 kilometres north) offer additional beach access, camping, and the nearest general amenities. The area attracts nature lovers, campers, and eco-tourists seeking an undeveloped coastal experience, while residents enjoy an exceptionally quiet lifestyle immersed in natural bushland and coastal scenery, with a car essential for all daily needs.
Deepwater falls under postcode 4674 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Burnett electorate.
