About Diggora
Diggora is a sparsely settled rural locality in north-central Victoria, situated approximately 14 kilometres north-west of Elmore within the Campaspe Shire Council area. Covering around 171 square kilometres of flat agricultural land, the locality recorded a 2021 Census population of 78 residents and is entirely defined by broad-acre grain cropping and sheep and beef farming. The name Diggora is reputed to derive from an Aboriginal rendering of the name 'Degraves', and in 1915 a railway siding was established nearby at Diggora West on the Elmore-to-Cohuna line, which supported the agricultural sector for several decades.
The surrounding district is part of the highly productive Campaspe region, with large properties growing cereal grains and running livestock across the flat plains between Rochester and Elmore. Rochester, approximately 35 kilometres to the north-east, serves as the primary regional service centre offering supermarkets, a hospital, schools, and community facilities. Echuca, on the Murray River, is around 45 kilometres north and provides a wider range of services and tourism amenities, while Melbourne is approximately 170 kilometres to the south.
Diggora falls under postcode 3561 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Murray Plains (Northern Victoria) electorate.
