About Dowerin
Dowerin is a rural town 156 kilometres north-east of Perth in the central Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, situated within the Shire of Dowerin at an elevation of 235 metres. Established in 1907 following the extension of the railway line into the agricultural district, it serves as the administrative seat of the Shire and a service hub for surrounding farming communities. With around 436 residents and a compact townscape of predominantly freestanding homes on generous blocks, Dowerin embodies the character of a classic Western Australian Wheatbelt town.
Dowerin is best known for hosting the Dowerin GWN Field Days, one of Western Australia's largest annual agricultural machinery and rural industry events, which draws tens of thousands of visitors each August. The town centre provides essential services including a supermarket, hotel, medical facilities, and sporting grounds catering to the local farming community. Public transport is minimal and a private vehicle is essential, but Dowerin's wide open landscapes, strong community ties, and central Wheatbelt location make it a welcoming base for those connected to the land.
Dowerin falls under postcode 6461 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Moore (Agricultural) electorate.
