About Dundathu
Dundathu is a small rural locality in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, situated approximately 10 kilometres north-north-east of Maryborough and 21 kilometres south-south-west of Hervey Bay. The Mary River forms part of the locality's southern boundary, with Saltwater Creek tracing the eastern edge before flowing east to join the Mary. The locality is primarily agricultural, with a history tied to the early sugar industry that flourished along the Mary River. Residents are a short drive south to Maryborough — a major regional centre and Queensland Heritage town — for everyday services, schools, and shops. Hervey Bay, renowned for whale watching and its relaxed coastal lifestyle, is accessible within around 30 minutes and provides additional employment, recreation, and services for the Fraser Coast community.
