About Eba
Eba is a tiny locality in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia, located about 10 kilometres south-west of Morgan near the north-west bend of the Murray River. Gazetted formally in 2003, the locality sits within the Mid Murray Council area along the Thiele Highway and was once a stop on the old Morgan railway line. With a 2021 census population of just 27 people, Eba is among South Australia's smallest localities, characterised by wide mallee scrub, red sandy soils and extreme summer heat.
Life in Eba centres on the land — dryland farming, pastoralism and the quiet rhythms of the outback. The locality is known for a quirky novelty railway siding with makeshift 'passengers', a nod to its historic connection to the now-abandoned Morgan rail network. Morgan (10 km) provides the closest services including a general store, pub and river access, while Blanchetown and Waikerie offer broader amenities. The Murray River corridor nearby offers fishing, camping and houseboat hire for those who venture this way.
Eba falls under postcode 5320 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Frome electorate.
