About Ebden
Ebden is a small rural locality in north-east Victoria, situated approximately 15 kilometres east of Wodonga within the City of Wodonga local government area. With a population of around 110 residents across nearly 25 square kilometres, the locality lies close to Lake Hume — the Hume Reservoir — one of Australia's largest water storages, formed by the damming of the Murray River near the Victoria–NSW border. Ebden sits approximately 337 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, in a region defined by the upper Murray River valley and the foothills of the Victorian Alps.
Ebden is closely associated with Lake Hume, which attracts boaters, anglers, swimmers, and campers from across the region year-round. A monument at Ebden commemorates explorers Hamilton Hume and William Hovell, who passed through the area during their landmark 1824 overland journey from Sydney to Port Phillip Bay. The twin cities of Wodonga (VIC) and Albury (NSW) together form a major regional centre with full shopping, healthcare, education, and transport services, all accessible within a short drive via the Kiewa Valley Highway.
Ebden falls under postcode 3691 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Ovens Valley (Northern Victoria) electorate.
