Epsom is a remote rural locality in the Isaac Region of Central Queensland, situated approximately 66.8 kilometres south-west of Mackay and 59.3 kilometres south of Mirani in the Bowen Basin hinterland. The locality covers 439 square kilometres of open eucalypt woodland, scrub and pastoral country loosely bounded to the east by the Whitehorse Mountains, and recorded a population of just 21 at the 2021 census. Epsom lies at the junction of the Mackay hinterland and the Isaac Region's coal and cattle landscape, approximately 987 kilometres north-north-west of Brisbane. The area is characterised by the transition from the coastal ranges to the flat interior, with a hot, seasonally wet tropical climate typical of Central Queensland's inland zones.
Epsom's tiny community is primarily engaged in cattle grazing and supporting industries associated with the broader Isaac Region's pastoral and mining economy. The town of Nebo (approximately 35 kilometres south) and Mirani (approximately 60 kilometres north) provide basic services, while Mackay (approximately 67 kilometres north-east) is the nearest city with hospitals, schools, major retail and an airport. The surrounding Isaac Region has significant coal and coal seam gas resources, which drive employment and infrastructure in nearby centres like Moranbah.
