Eugowra is steeped in Australian colonial history — most notably as the site of Australia's largest gold robbery in 1862, when bushranger Frank Gardiner and his gang (including Ben Hall) ambushed a Cobb and Co coach at nearby Escort Rock, stealing 77 kilograms of gold. The town also features Eugowra Rocks, a striking granite outcrop, and the area supplied granite for the construction of the Australian Parliament House in the 1970s and 80s. Services are modest and centred around the main street, with the town offering a quiet, heritage-tinged rural lifestyle for residents.
