About Fifield
Fifield is a small rural locality in the Lachlan Shire of central New South Wales, situated approximately 449 kilometres west-north-west of Sydney and 92 kilometres north-west of Parkes. The locality covers a large pastoral area of around 665 square kilometres on the traditional land of the Wiradjuri people. With a small resident population, Fifield is a quiet outback community surrounded by open plains and agricultural land typical of the central-western tablelands.
Fifield is historically renowned for its deposits of alluvial gold and platinum, first discovered in the 1890s when hundreds of prospectors flooded the area during a localised gold rush. The remnant mining heritage, including the Fifield, Gillenbine, and Platina leads, gives the locality an enduring character linked to the region's colonial goldfield era. Today it is a deeply rural locality with a small hotel serving the local farming community, and its wide open skies and pastoral landscape attract visitors with an interest in outback heritage and fossicking history.
Fifield falls under postcode 2875 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Orange electorate.
