About Fischer
Fischer is a small rural locality in the Adelaide Plains region of South Australia, located between the town of Gawler to the south and Mallala to the north within the Adelaide Plains Council area. Covering approximately 3.7 square kilometres, it is one of the more compact localities in the region and is home to 78 residents as recorded in the 2021 Census. The locality takes its name from a pioneering German-heritage family who settled the land in the mid-nineteenth century as part of the broader Prussian migration to South Australia.
The surrounding Adelaide Plains are known for their fertile soils supporting grain cropping, vegetable production, and livestock farming, with much of the produce supplying Adelaide markets. Residents have access to services in nearby Mallala, which offers a general store, primary school, and community facilities, while Gawler — approximately 15 minutes south — provides a wider range of shopping, schools, and health services. The locality is well positioned for commuters, sitting within about 50 kilometres of Adelaide's CBD via the Main North Road.
Fischer falls under postcode 5502 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Frome electorate.
