About Fiskville
Fiskville is a small rural locality in Victoria's Moorabool Shire, situated approximately 55 kilometres west of Melbourne's CBD near the township of Bacchus Marsh. Covering around 28 square kilometres of predominantly agricultural land, Fiskville had a resident population of just 18 people at the 2021 Census, making it one of the most sparsely settled localities in the Greater Melbourne region. The area is characterised by open paddocks, farms, and remnant bush on the volcanic plains of central Victoria. Fiskville is perhaps best known historically as the former location of the Country Fire Authority's (CFA) Fiskville Training College, which operated for several decades before closing in 2015 following contamination concerns.
Today, Fiskville is a quiet, largely agricultural locality with minimal permanent population and no commercial services of its own. Nearby Bacchus Marsh — approximately 8 kilometres to the southeast — provides the nearest access to supermarkets, schools, and other amenities. The locality sits within a scenic pastoral landscape and is traversed by the Western Freeway, providing reasonable freeway access to Melbourne. Surrounding properties are a mix of hobby farms and grazing land, and the area attracts those who value space, privacy, and a connection to rural Victoria.
Fiskville falls under postcode 3342 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Eureka (Western Victoria) electorate.
