About Foresthome
Foresthome is a small rural locality in the Shire of Hinchinbrook in tropical north Queensland, situated near the town of Ingham approximately 110 kilometres north of Townsville. The locality covers around 17 square kilometres of cane country on the coastal lowlands, with the North Coast railway line passing through from south to north. With a 2021 Census population of 84 residents, Foresthome is a quiet farming locality shaped by the sugarcane industry that has defined the Hinchinbrook region for over a century.
The surrounding area is dominated by sugarcane fields irrigated by the Herbert River system, one of Queensland's most productive sugar-growing regions. Residents rely on the nearby town of Ingham for schools, shopping, and services, with Ingham State High School and Ingham State School serving the district. The landscape is defined by tropical vegetation, flat cane plains, and the dramatic ranges of the Wet Tropics hinterland visible to the west, offering a distinctly remote and agricultural character.
Foresthome falls under postcode 4850 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Traeger electorate.
