About Gibson
Gibson is a town and locality in the Shire of Esperance within the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, situated approximately 22 kilometres north of Esperance and 719 kilometres east-south-east of Perth. Established in 1921, the locality covers an expansive area of around 734 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 406 residents. Gibson sits at an elevation of around 218 metres on the southern WA pastoral belt, flanked by the Coolgardie–Esperance Highway and the Kalgoorlie to Esperance railway line.
The locality is home to the Gibson Soak Hotel, a classic outback roadhouse and pub that has served travellers along the Esperance highway for generations. Agriculture and pastoralism are the backbone of the local economy, with broad-acre farming operations across the district. Residents access the full range of services — schools, hospitals, retail, and the stunning beaches of the Esperance coastline — in Esperance township, approximately 26 kilometres to the south. Gibson's vast open spaces, clear skies, and proximity to the Cape Le Grand National Park region make it a characterful outback locality on the edge of one of Australia's most beautiful coastlines.
Gibson falls under postcode 6448 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Roe (Agricultural) electorate.
