About Glencoe
Glencoe is a small rural town in South Australia's Limestone Coast region, located approximately 27 kilometres north-west of Mount Gambier and around 434 kilometres south-east of Adelaide. It falls within the Wattle Range Council local government area and sits at an elevation of around 102 metres in the lush, green landscape typical of the South-East. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 633, spread across a large locality of approximately 87 square kilometres of predominantly agricultural land.
The township of Glencoe was established in 1844, making it one of the older settlements in the South-East region, and the district is steeped in pastoral history. The surrounding area is characterised by cattle and sheep grazing properties, plantation timber, and the cool-climate scenery of the Limestone Coast. Residents enjoy close proximity to Mount Gambier's full range of shops, schools, and healthcare services, while the small community retains a strong rural character.
