About Goolman
Goolman is a small rural locality within the Ipswich City Council area in South East Queensland, located approximately 40 kilometres south of Ipswich and around 65 kilometres southwest of Brisbane. The locality covers around 21 square kilometres, with the vast majority of land comprising conservation reserve — notably the Lake Moogerah region — resulting in a very small permanent population. The name has Indigenous origins and the area has historical connections to early European pastoral settlement in the Scenic Rim region. The locality is characterised by open farmland, bushland, and the dramatic terrain of the Scenic Rim escarpment.
Goolman and its surrounds attract visitors and nature lovers drawn to the nearby Lake Moogerah, which is one of South East Queensland's most popular recreational lakes for sailing, water skiing, and camping. The small communities of Peak Crossing and Roadvale nearby provide a limited range of rural services, while the town of Boonah (approximately 20 kilometres south) serves as the main service centre for the area. The locality appeals to farmers, rural lifestyle seekers, and weekenders who value open space and proximity to the Scenic Rim's natural attractions.
Goolman falls under postcode 4306 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Scenic Rim electorate.
