About Grantham
Grantham is a rural town and locality in the Lockyer Valley Region of Queensland, situated approximately 98 kilometres west of Brisbane along the Warrego Highway. With a population of 796 across a large 49.3 square kilometre area, the town sits at an elevation of 109 metres within the fertile Lockyer Valley, historically an important agricultural district. Grantham is administered by the Lockyer Valley Regional Council and is known nationally for its resilient rebuild following devastating flash floods in January 2011, which led to the entire town being relocated to higher ground.
The town was extensively rebuilt after the 2011 Queensland floods, which claimed 12 lives and destroyed much of the original settlement; the new Grantham was constructed on an elevated site to protect residents from future flood events. The Warrego Highway provides direct road access eastward to Ipswich and Brisbane, and westward toward Toowoomba. Gatton, 10 kilometres to the east, serves as the primary service hub for the area with supermarkets, schools, and the University of Queensland Gatton campus. Grantham suits those who value rural Queensland living with a resilient community spirit and reasonable access to regional centres.
Grantham falls under postcode 4347 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lockyer electorate.
