About Green Hill
Green Hill is a rural locality in the Cairns Region of Queensland, located approximately 6.4 kilometres north-north-east of Gordonvale and 23 kilometres south of the Cairns CBD. Covering an area of around 37.8 square kilometres, the locality is characterised by lush tropical sugarcane farming country at the foot of the Macalister Range. With a population of 177 residents as of the 2021 Census, Green Hill is a sparsely settled agricultural community in Far North Queensland.
The landscape of Green Hill is shaped by extensive sugarcane cultivation, with a network of cane tramways running through the western part of the locality to transport harvested sugarcane to the Mulgrave Central Mill at Gordonvale. The area enjoys the tropical climate typical of the Cairns region, with a wet season bringing lush greenery and a dry season of warm sunny days. Residents rely on nearby Gordonvale for everyday services and can reach Cairns — with its international airport, hospitals, shopping centres, and Great Barrier Reef access — in around 25 minutes by car.
Green Hill falls under postcode 4865 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mulgrave electorate.
