About Halliford
Halliford is an extremely remote rural locality in southern Queensland, situated in the Maranoa region approximately 90 kilometres south-west of Dalby in the Darling Downs. With a land area of over 551 square kilometres, the locality is one of the largest and most sparsely populated in Queensland, with fewer than five residents recorded at the 2021 Census. The landscape consists of open mulga scrubland, brigalow plains, and red soil country typical of inland southern Queensland.
The locality's economy revolves entirely around broadacre agriculture and pastoral grazing, with large properties running cattle and sheep across vast tracts of land. There are no local services within Halliford itself, and residents travel to Chinchilla or Dalby for essential supplies, schooling, and medical care. The area offers an authentic outback lifestyle characterised by wide horizons, isolation, and a strong connection to the land.
Halliford falls under postcode 4406 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warrego electorate.
