About Harrismith
Harrismith is a small rural locality in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, located approximately 260 kilometres south-east of Perth between the towns of Wickepin and Kulin. The settlement dates to 1914 when a railway siding was established during construction of the Narrogin–Kondinin line, and a small township subsequently formed around it. With a population of just 52 residents spread across roughly 200 square kilometres, Harrismith is one of the most sparsely populated localities in the state. The surrounding landscape is dominated by broad agricultural plains used primarily for dryland grain farming and sheep grazing.
Life in Harrismith revolves around the rhythms of the farming calendar, with the wider communities of Wickepin and Kulin providing essential services such as schools, health facilities, and retail. The locality offers a deeply peaceful rural lifestyle with wide-open skies, minimal traffic, and strong connections to the land. Harrismith and nearby localities attract those seeking an authentic outback farming experience, and the region is popular with grey nomads and travellers exploring the remote Wheatbelt. Essential amenities are a short drive away in Wickepin, which also hosts the iconic Corrigan Museum.
Harrismith falls under postcode 6361 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Central Wheatbelt (Agricultural) electorate.
