About Holder
Holder is a quiet, established residential suburb in the Weston Creek district of Canberra, located approximately 10 kilometres south-west of the city's CBD. Developed in the early 1970s, the suburb was named after Sir Frederick William Holder, the first Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives. With a population of around 2,800, Holder is characterised by leafy streets, mature gardens, and a mix of original brick homes, townhouses, and newer infill developments.
Life in Holder revolves around a relaxed suburban pace with easy access to the amenities of the wider Weston Creek district. The suburb sits close to Cooleman Court Shopping Centre and a range of local parks, playing fields, and cycling paths that connect to Canberra's extensive trail network. Families, long-term residents, and public servants make up much of the community, attracted by the suburb's proximity to government employment hubs in Woden, Tuggeranong, and the city, as well as highly regarded local schools.
Holder falls under postcode 2611 and is governed by Unincorporated Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Murrumbidgee electorate.
