About Ilford
Ilford is a small village in the Mid-Western Regional Council area of New South Wales, situated on the Castlereagh Highway (known locally as the Sydney Road) beside the Crudine River, approximately 220 kilometres north-west of Sydney. The village covers an expansive rural district of nearly 199 square kilometres, with a population of around 165 residents living amid rolling hills, farmland, and bushland. Named after the English township of Ilford in Essex, it was established in the 1800s when early settlers arrived from that region.
Ilford is a quiet rural crossroads village, centred on the T-junction where the Bathurst-Ilford Road meets the Castlereagh Highway, with Ilford Public School serving the local farming community. The surrounding landscape is ideal for those seeking rural peace, with access to the nearby Mudgee region's wineries and the historic city of Bathurst both within comfortable driving distance. Larger towns including Mudgee (around 60 kilometres north-west) and Lithgow (around 50 kilometres south-east) provide medical services, schools, and shopping for residents of the area.
Ilford falls under postcode 2850 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Upper Hunter electorate.
