About Jugiong
Jugiong is a small historic town and locality in the Hilltops Council area of New South Wales, situated on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River approximately 336 kilometres south-west of Sydney, just off the Hume Highway between Gundagai and Yass. Sitting at an elevation of around 303 metres, the town lies on the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri people. The 2021 census recorded a population of 255, making it a tight-knit rural community with a long pastoral history dating to the 1820s.
Jugiong is best known among travellers for the Sir George pub and restaurant, a beloved stop on the Hume Highway tourist route. The town's historic streetscape, Murrumbidgee River frontage, and proximity to the wine regions of Hilltops and Canberra district attract weekend visitors and food enthusiasts. Residents enjoy a quiet rural lifestyle with the amenities of Yass and Gundagai accessible within an hour by car.
